A new addition to the rear of the existing List 2 building at No. 44 Essex Street East necessitated archaeological evaluation of a series of five pits excavated by mini-digger, c. 1m2/1.5m2. The pits comprised mainly rubble infill. Apart from some evidence for the deposition of reclamation material, which included shell and bone, there was no other evidence for significant archaeological features.
