Pre-development site assessment was conducted at 16/18 Fishamble St., Dublin, for Douglas Wallace Opperman, Architects, on behalf of Archaeological Development Services Ltd., on September 14-15, 1994.

Five test trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator under archaeological supervision to establish the uppermost levels of in situ archaeological deposits. These levels varied across the site from 6.24m OD, below the 18th-century basement level, to 8.13m OD, where there was no previous construction activity.
