Standing stone
D131347
SMR 14:6
A small-scale two-day excavation was carried out on a low mound to locate the socket of a toppled standing stone in advance of its re-erection. The excavation revealed that the mound consisted of layers of redeposited subsoil interspersed with charcoal and burnt bone. Neolithic pottery and flint artifacts were also recovered. The socket of the stone, which had evidently been inserted in the mound, was located. The stone was re-erected in a hidden concrete collar and orientated with advice from the landowner.
