Monitoring was carried out during the topsoil-stripping for a trial cutting on the proposed Kildare Bypass. The trial cutting measured 30m x 30m and lay in Knockshough Glebe townland. The work was carried out on 20 October 1999.

The site selected was an area of relatively flat grassland. The mechanically excavated trial cutting was opened to a depth of over 7.5m, in connection with ongoing water-table studies. The soil profile consisted of 0.4-0.6m of grass-covered topsoil overlying silty marl and, at lower levels, gravel, stones and sand. No artefacts or structures of archaeological interest came to light during this work.
