An archaeological evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site at Timolin, Co. Kildare, on 7 October 1999. The work was undertaken in compliance with a request for additional information in respect of a planning application to construct six houses on the site.
Six trenches were excavated by machine at the site, which is within the confines of a castle site. No features, deposits or structures, either associated with or independent of the castle, were uncovered. However, a total of eighteen sherds of pottery, all of which appear to be of medieval date, were recovered during the evaluation. Consequently, it was recommended that monitoring of groundworks should be undertaken if planning permission was granted.
